Marseilleveyre

WP_20150506_003-1024x575

First calanque (from west to east) of Marseille. Here you’ll find a sandy beach in a beautiful and relaxing place.

You can even have lunch or dinner at the only restaurant in site, the famous “Chez le Belge”. Be careful, do not expect a fancy place with a large menu. Only 2 options: spareribs or spaguetti and crêpes as dessert.

As you can imagine: no internet, no electricity and no credit card! Real holidays 🙂

Please, think about taking a big bottle of water with you! It might get very hot and we do not want you to have a bad time.

How to get there:

  • Get to Callelongue: from Castellane get the bus number 19 up to the last station (Madrague de Montredon). Once you get off the bus, you have to take another one from the same place, a smaller bus, number 20 and get off at the end of the journey. You are in Callelongue.
  • As soon as you get of the bus, and right in front of a restaurant called “La Grotte”, you will see the path that leads to the Calanque of Marseilleveyre. You have to hick following the sea for around 40 minutes before arriving at paradise.

Quick tip:

right before getting to Callelongue, you’ll pass by “Les Goudes”, a small fishermen village where you can have a beer at the original pub 2000 lieues sous la bière watching the best sunset ever.

From there you can also hick only 10 minutes up to “La baie des Singes” and admire “L’île Maire”.

Sormiou

One of the most well-known pictures of Marseille. Here you’ll find a sandy beach in a large calanque.

You can have lunch or dinner thanks the only restaurant in site: Le Château (very good fish).

Please, note that during the high season the acces to the calanques is regulated. It means you cannot get there by car, only by feet. However, if you make a reservation in one of these restaurants they will give you a password allowing you to reach the calanque by car (parking: 4€).

How to get there:

  • From Rond Point du Prado (right next to the football stadium) take the bus number 22 (not 22S) and get off at the last station, called “Les Baumettes”.
  • As soon as you get of the bus, keep on walking straight until you get to a parking lot (you’ll pass by one of our favorites and most authentic restaurants in the city Chez Zé). Once in the parking lot, take the path on your right and after 40-45 minutes of hicking you’ll be in Sormiou.

Sugiton

One of the most polular calanques. You’ve certainly heard of this calanque when you arrived in Marseille. Here you’ll find a rocky beach in a breathtaking creek.

No restaurants or bars here so, get your food before venturing on the path to Sugiton.

How to get there:

  • Get to Luminy: from Castellane get the bus number 21 up to the last station (Luminy).
  • As soon as you get of the bus, you’ll find yourself in the university campus, do not worry!! you are still on holidays. You will find the path that leads to the Calanque of Sugiton in front of you. You have to hick straight down for around 40 minutes before arriving at one of the most amazing places you’ll ever see.

Quick tip: In the middle of the way you will get to a clear where you’ll find one path on your left, one path straight down and another one on your right, and if you look up on your right you’ll perceive a point of view. It is really worth it to hick 15 more minutes to get up there from where you’ll be able to have a glince of both calanques Morgiou and Sugiton, before keep on going down again until the creek.
